Industrial pump maintenance: vibration, temperature and current monitoring
Industry News · 2026-07-09Periodic maintenance over time is both costly and misses random damage. Data-based predictive maintenance: measure the condition of the machine, detect bad trends and intervene on time.
Movement is
It is the earliest indicator. ISO 20816 (replacement of ISO 10816) assesses vibration by effective speed (mm/s) with regions A to D. Vibration is commonly indicated as a cause: 1× rotation frequency is usually due to imbalance, 2× due to axis deviation, wide range of high frequencies due to aggression, peaks according to frequency bearings for bearings damage.
Temperature and electricity.
The temperature of the beam and the falling chamber gradually increases signalling lack of lubrication or overload. The engine current varies according to the hydraulic load: the unusual low current may be due to the pump running dry or losing prey, the high current due to the pump running overflow or stuck.
hydraulic power.
Compare the measured flow and pressure column with the original characteristic line to know the level of wear gap. A 5–10% drop in pressure column at the same flow is often an indication to be tested.
Show the reality.
- Start with the important pump: no backup or stop the entire chain.
- Connect vibration sensors and low-cost wireless temperature, record data by hour.
- Set the alert threshold by trend, not just by absolute value.
- Record each problem to adjust the threshold over time.
Sample maintenance schedule for centrifugal pump.
- Every day :Listening to noise, checking the leakage, the temperature of the lock, the input pressure out.
- every month :measure the vibration, check the lubrication, the footing of the leg, the straightness of the joint joint.
- Every year :measure the flow properties – pressure column, check the opening of the wear circuit, change the oil of the bearing.
- According to condition:Change the folds, circulation, folds when the trend deteriorates.
Keep the foot pump without water.
Unlike the centrifugal pump, the water circle vacuum pump needs to pay more attention to the ring fluid: the flow and temperature of the water sealing, the adhesion in the pump chamber, the wear of the distribution disc and the condition of the water filter line. It is advisable to periodically discharge, check the one-way valve and filter grid, measure the vacuum at the suction door compared to the original characteristic line to detect degradation.

Frequently asked questions.
How much should I stop pumping?
It depends on the machine group and the applicable standard (ISO 20816), but more importantly, the trend is rising compared to the background value of that pump itself.
Do I need a sensor for every pump?
Start with the important pump, no backup, and then expand.
