Water-free vacuum pump fluids: choose water, oil or solvent?

Industry News · 2026-08-04Water-free vacuum pump fluids: choose water, oil or solvent?

The liquid circle moderately closes the gap between the wing and the pump body, both absorbs compression heat and condensation heat of steam. Choose the liquid and level mode to determine the vacuum achievement, suction capacity and operating cost.

Limit your feet by temperature.

The non-extreme foot of the pump is one step closer to the saturation pressure of the ring liquid vapor. With water, the vapor pressure is about 17 mbar at 15 °C, 23 mbar at 20 °C, 32 mbar at 25 °C and 42 mbar at 30 °C. The colder the water, the deeper the vacuum and the higher the suction flow, so the same pump, summer usually gives lower capacity than winter.

Three levels of fluid.

  • Once by once (once through):Clean water supply and drain; simple but consuming a lot of water.
  • Part of the week:reuse part of the water that has been separated from the gas, compensating for the rest.
  • The Week Closed:fluid passes through the refrigerator and returns to the pump; saves water, easily handles toxic gases and solvents.

Choices outside the country.

Mineral oils or synthetic oils for deeper vacuum because the pressure of the vapor is very low; organic solvents when compatible with the leather; condensed sulfuric acid for chlorine gas to both seal and dry the gas.

Quality of fluid.

Hard water, water and solid particles cause wear, acid water causes corrosion. Filtering, softening, pH control and periodic discharge are conditions for durable pumping.

Water temperature and sealing capacity.

As the fluid temperature of the ring increases, the suction capacity at the same pressure decreases significantly, as a portion of the compression chamber is occupied by the steam of the fluid itself. Therefore, the design of the cooling unit and the water level temperature is just as important as choosing the pump model. In the closed circuit, the water temperature in the pump is usually kept lower than the cooling water temperature provided for the heat exchanger several degrees.

Fluid signals are problematic.

  • The foot does not decrease even if the pump does not leak: hot water or there is a stain in the pump chamber.
  • Noise like stone: invasion due to suction pressure near slightly saturated pressure.
  • Waste water with oil: oil or solvent entering from the process.
  • Increased engine current: excessive amount of fluid or clogging.

Closed circuit configuration for Kenflo pumps

The Kenflo water pump.can configure closed circulation with gas–liquid separator, heat exchanger, pump or self-circulation, and compensation valve. With chlorine gas, the ring liquid is dense sulfuric acid inThe Kenflo fluid compressor.Let itContact us .and indicate the suction gas, cooling water temperature and vacuum required to be consulted configuration.

Frequently asked questions.

Can sea water be used as a fluid?

Well, if you choose chloride-resistant materials (inox double phase, special alloys). Offshore drillers usually use this way.

How long do I need to change water?

Depending on the level of dirt of the suction gas and the additional water quality; it is advisable to monitor dullness, pH and temperature, replace or discharge a partial periodically.
