ATEX standard for vacuum pumps and centrifugal pumps in hazardous areas
Industry News · 2026-07-02ATEX is the common name of two European directives: Directive 2014/34/EU on equipment for use in explosive environments and Directive 1999/92/EC on the safety of workers in such environments.
Division of dangerous areas.
- Area of 0:explosive mixture present continuously or for a long period of time.
- The Area 1:It may appear in normal operation.
- The Zone 2:They rarely appear and only for a short time.
Equipment is grouped and classified (e.g. group II class 2G for zone 1) to the same temperature level T1 to T6, ensuring that the surface temperature is lower than the self-inflammation temperature of the gas.
sources of fire in the pump.
Dry running heaters, overheating bearings, light bulbs due to friction between metal details, static electricity and non-explosive electric motors. Measures include dry running protection, temperature sensors of bearings and bearings, anti-ray joints, equal grounding and anti-explosion motors.
Compressor and fluid pump.
Nearly thermal compression and no rubbing metal in the compression chamber helps reduce the source of fire, but it is still necessary to protect the low ring liquid level, monitor the temperature and use standard electrical equipment.
Files need to be checked.
The ATEX label on the equipment (group symbol, class, type of gas, thermal level), certification of the certification body, and the accompanying installation, operating instructions.
Checklist when selecting pumps for hazardous areas
- Identify zones (0, 1, 2), gas groups (IIA, IIB, IIC) and temperature levels T1–T6 of the environment.
- Choose pumps and engines that have the appropriate ATEX or IECEx certification.
- There is dry running protection, temperature detector and falling, equal grounding.
- Fireproof connector, shell cover connector with non-fireproof material.
- Profile: ATEX label, declaration of conformity, operating instructions.
Kenflo pumps for flammable gases
The 2BE1 water ring vacuum pump line has achieved ATEX certification, along with theThe Kenflo fluid compressor.compression close to equal heat and no metals rubbed in the compression chamber, is the familiar choice for oxide gas, hydrogen, hydrocarbon. The Kenflo pump.API 610 and API 682 help meet the safety requirements of the oil and gas industry.Contact us .to provide explosion resistance advice.
Frequently asked questions.
Is ATEX mandatory in Vietnam?
ATEX is the European regulation; in Vietnam, projects typically adopt ATEX or IECEx as required by investors and current safety regulations.
Are fluid ring pumps absolutely safe with flammable gases?
There is no absolute safety. Close thermal compression reduces risk, but still requires protection of liquid levels, temperature monitoring and electrical equipment.
