Anti-corrosion chemical pump material: 316L stainless steel, double phase, titanium, Hastelloy
Industry News · 2026-07-15Choosing the wrong material can damage the chemical pump for a few weeks, and the initial savings are usually very small compared to the cost of stopping the machine.
groups of materials.
- Stainless steel austenite 304/316Lwidely used; 316L (with molybdenum) is better corrosion resistant than 304.
- Stainless steel (duplex and super duplex)High strength, chloride resistance and corrosion voltage better than 316L.
- by titan:very good in the chloride and oxidizing environment; poor with some deacidifying and fluoride-containing environmental substances.
- and nickel alloys (Hastelloy)for strong acid, medium oxidized and deoxidated environment; high cost, need to test each environment.
Number of PREN.
PREN ≈ %Cr + 3.3×%Mo + 16×%N is used for preliminary comparison of resistance to corrosion in chloride: 316L around 24–26, duplex 2205 around 35, super duplex over 40.
Materials by Kim
PTFE, ETFE or plastic pumps for strong acids and algae; mechanical removals by SiC or carbon–SiC; FKM or FFKM depilation by solvent.
Things that are easily overlooked.
Temperature accelerates corrosion, solid particles wear the passive layer, corrosion in the fusion, and electrochemical pairs between two different metals. It is advisable to test the sample when using new materials and ask the chemical supplier.
Selection of actual materials.
- List the material, concentration, working temperature and highest temperature at the time of the accident.
- Determine whether there is strong chloride, fluoride, solid particles or oxidizing.
- Compatibility table of the material manufacturer.
- Choose materials for the body, wings, axles, underpinnings and fittings separately.
- Try a sample or reference experience in the same process.

Frequently asked questions.
Does 316L stainless steel tolerate hydrochloric acid?
Generally no; HCl is a hard material, requires dedicated alloys or non-metallic materials. Always check the compatibility table.
Is it better than 316L?
Chloride resistance and stress corrosion are better, but not for every deodorant; some deodorant acids still need other alloys.
