Pump for the fire system.

A fire-fighting pump is a safe device: it can remain silent for years but must run properly when an accident occurs.Therefore, the pressure column characteristic line–the pump’s capacity is strictly standardized, the common reference is NFPA 20.

Three characteristic points.

• The amount is 0 (churn):The pressure should not exceed 140% of the standard pressure.
• 100% of the level:100% of the pressure.
• 150% of the level:The pressure is at least 65%.

Typical pumping system.

The main power pump and the main pump run the reserve diesel engine, with a small jockey pump holding the pressure of the pipeline so that the main pump does not start due to a small leakage. The pressure threshold of the offset pump and the main pump must be set in the correct order, otherwise the pump starts continuously or causes the water hammer.

A periodic test.

According to NFPA 25, annual inspections at flow rates of 0, 100% and 150%; if the result is below about 95% of the standard value, it is necessary to investigate the cause (opening wing slots, filter switches, low engine speeds...).

Applied in Vietnam.

It is necessary to compare with the current fire prevention standards and regulations of Vietnam and the requirements of the approval authority; many pump projects are certified (UL/FM) or tested according to equivalent standards.
